My dear Lady Holland
I felt that I was unfortunate when I found that it was you and Sir Henry whom I had missed seeing on Saturday.
I was just getting ready to go to Weybridge, and the servant took it for granted that I could not see any one, but if I had known who was at the door I should have begged you to let me see you only for five minutes. It is rather hard that one should see many whom one does not care about seeing and should twice miss those who would be most welcome.
As our visiting is not of the formal sort I do not add one more to the multitude of formalities you are obliged to attend to, by calling at Rutland Gate 549 when you are sure to be preoccupied.
I have a wretched cold in the head which almost blinds me, after winning through the terrible winter without any such effect. I like to think you and Sir Henry gave me a proof that you are both well.
