Dear Miss Marshall
We hope to have a few nice people to spend the evening with us on the 24th, when Charlie comes of age. Do come to us if you can: Mr. Lewes thinks, as I do, that yours is a comfortable presence, making life seem easier.
We are nearly settled now, wanting only a few articles that linger at the maker's. But you may imagine that the business or removal was not made more agreeable by my having a fierce cold the week before, drawing after it a comet's tail of cough and small miseries, from which I am not yet free.
Pray tell me that you will come on the 24th at 8 o'clock.
