My dear Barbara
Thanks for the newspaper containing the letter from V'e9ra Zassoulitch. 63
My headache yesterday 64 made me oblivious of something I wanted to say to you. It was, that our friends Mr. and Mrs. Hall of Six Mile wish to get a governess for their nine year old boy. 65 She must know French, German and music, must be a lady in manners and general culture, and young enough to be a bright companion. The position, I imagine, would be as happy as such positions can be made by the amiability and rectitude of the parents. The boy is a beautiful, charming fellow. Mr. Hall mentioned you as one whom he would have consulted on the subject if it had been admissible for him to trouble you. I promised to tell you of his want, trusting that it will rather please than worry you if you happen to know of a suitable young lady, and if not -- of course you will dismiss the matter.
I did not remember when we were talking of the Goldsmids that I know the Julian who succeeds to the title 66 and lives at a beautiful place near Tunbridge. I dined with him one day at Mr. Goschen's. He is a handsome, vigorous man -- not like the poor Augustus.
I hope Sir W. Jenner 67 did not find you overdone yesterday. I again stayed too long.

If you or Miss Scott know of a well-warranted woman who would take care of our house during our absence for the summer and autumn, will you ask the invaluable Miss Scott to write me word of her, and at the same time to let me know whether you have secured the delightful House in Sussex?
