My dear Barbara
I have not written to you this long while because I was uncertain about your movements. But yesterday Miss Rintoul 476 got me the information that you were in England and sent for letters to B[landford] Sq.
I would have followed your indication about Miss Marks, but for the continuous bad health which has made my inevitable engagements too much for me. (I don't know her address, but I could have sent a letter for her to Miss Townsend). 477 And now I have no time to make an appointment for her to come to me on a week-day, while the remaining Sundays before we go away are likely to be too crowded for me to have any conversation with her. Perhaps when you see her you will mention, if it seems desirable, that I should have wished much to see her if I had been in possession of health and leisure.
We want to get away at the beginning of June. I suppose you are not coming to town. So take my parting benediction, believe in my stedfast love, and send me word, if you can, that all things have gone on well from the last accounts up to the present time.
We go to Oxford on Saturday, for the Sunday. After that I should be glad if we had no more than one Sunday at home.
