Dearest Bessie
Will you or can you come to lunch with us some day -- say Monday -- at 'bd past 1 o'clock? That is the only time of day on which I can make an appointment just now. But if that time is inconvenient to you, we shall always be at home between 5 and 6 except on a Saturday. It is so long a journey for you that I have a sort of compunction in writing easily to say [Come]. For Christmas we go to Sevenoaks to see some of the family, and I suppose you will then be at Slindon. 506
We have been here a fortnight but are not yet in thorough quietude and freedom from house arrangements. One reason is, that Mr. Cross was ill with a bilious attack one whole week. He is well again now, and I am quite flourishing again in my rickety fashion -- a mended piece of antique furniture.
I am deeply grieved to hear of Barbara's partial relapse. We should all feel life the sadder if she were to have another seizure which would narrow her powers still further.
I hope you will have found the children in a satisfactory state of progress, bodily and mentally.
