My dear Anna
We shall be very glad to be with you on the 13th and I shall look forward delightedly to Johnnie's enjoyment of the tennis that Albert will provide for him besides the pleasure of the old companionship.
When I asked Johnnie how long he would think of staying with you, since you give us the generous invitation to stay as long as we can, he said "Till Monday." But I dared to plead that we should stay till Tuesday if that space were needed to cover the Spottiswood dinner. 461 I once met the Spottiswoods at Oxford and found them very agreeable.
"Phoebie" is a nice little body for anyone who wants a budding housemaid. Brett pronounces her clean, industrious and quick to learn. She is also rather pretty to look at.
We shall let you know the train by which we shall arrive on the 13th. Johnnie, I think, will meet Albert tomorrow at Weybridge, and will then have made up his mind on this point. [The rest of the letter has been cut away.]
