Dear Cara
Herewith the cheque for £28.10. 199 I am very glad to see the specimen of the Animal World. The portrait of the dear donkey on the right hand side I am sure must be edifying. The plan of getting illustrations in this way seems to me most fortunate.
Then about the Blood. Mr. Lewes says, [Yes, the red colour is rust] (until further notice).
The news of you all is very welcome -- that about Sara delightful. We are very well, having gone through the severe weather without once taking cold.
Mr. Fiske used to come to us sometimes while he was in England. A large-headed man with rather a good-looking face -- what Milton might call a "bush with frizzy hair implicit" 200 -- staring at you as if in spellbound silence when he put out his hand to say goodbyes and altogether rather in the heavy style. Yet he is not at all a heavy writer.
I hope you got a card from me some time ago, correcting my omission to return dear Mrs. Pears's greeting in my [The second page has been cut away.]
