Dear Cara
Who should be announced yesterday but Mr. and Mrs. Pears? Of course I ran down with open arms delighted. In the evening Mr. Chapman and I went to Dr. W. Smith's 1054 who lives in the Ultima Thule of Regent's Park Villas. The evening was not brilliant, but it was pleasant to sit by Mrs. Pears on the sofa. We have a thorough November morning after a week of really fine clear healthy days. Of course Mr. Bray will write Kossuth 1055 -- how can you expect any other? There is after all a little truth in the spiteful sayings of the Times, about the Political Barnums who are making a show of him -- still we must be glad when humbug takes a good direction. Perhaps that is the utmost one can expect from poor humans.
Mr. Neuberg who has been here some time is an agreeable, intelligent man. He said the other morning, [Do you ever feel stupid? I feel sometimes as if there were a wall built up between me and me.] Is not that just it? All the bright ideas, the fit words and the clever illustrations are on the other side of the wall -- are really there, though people wouldn't believe it. I shall be glad to have another glimpse of Mr. Noel before he sets out on his dreary journey.
You have really been living quite fast lately -- but Mrs. Pears says you are looking all the better -- for which blessing at least I sing my Jubilate.
Write, write, write.
In haste
Pollian.
