Dear Cara
The contrairiness of things! We shall be obliged to turn out of our house in a fortnight and have not yet absolutely settled where we are to lay our heads. Tomorrow we are going to see if we can come to a final arrangement about the house we desire to take; but at present we are certain of nothing but of hurry and of incessant calls to town. That is one part of the "contrairiness" -- that we can't go to Sydenham before Saturday. The other part is, that we have for some time settled with Charley to meet him at the Crystal Palace precisely on Saturday -- that being the only day on which he has a half holiday, and we want him to see the sights with us before we leave this convenient starting place. And from your letter, I fear there is some obstacle to our seeing you on Saturday? We have appointed Charley to meet us among the Greek Sculpture about 2 o'clock; but if there were any chance of our seeing you any how on that day, I would make any arrangement possible for that end.
Pity us -- "careful and troubled about many things." 629 We shall always be at home in the evening for charitable folks to come and see, if they will do so. It is rather hard that an opportunity of seeing you should happen so inopportunely. Mr. Lewes sends his best regards to you and Mr. Bray and I mine -- that is to say, my sincere affection, which I think is quite the best sort of regard. I shall keep a faint hope of seeing you somehow, until you tell me it is impossible.
Ever yours
Marian.
The house we expect to settle in is in Gloucester Road, near Gloucester Gate, Regent's Park.

Signature

Marian.
