Dear Mrs. Joachim 474
Hardly any invitation could have been pleasanter to us than the one you have kindly sent us. But unhappily we have already accepted two invitations for next week -- on Monday and Thursday 475 -- and on Saturday we go to Oxford. Our infirm bodies, which have lately been suffering from various forms of cold, will not allow us to venture on more dissipation than we have already incurred for next week. It was very good of you to think of us.
Mr. Lewes who is just now in bed with lumbago, sends a mysterious message which I am to beg you to deliver to your Husband, namely, [that he is curious about the cigars.] He adds, more clearly, his best regards. Believe me
