My dear Mrs. Pattison
I yield to temptation. From the 25th to the 28th Mr. Lewes says that we could give ourselves the treat of being with you. That is a long visit for me to think of without terror of wearying my friends. But Oxford with you in it must not be enjoyed too hurriedly. Of course if anything should happen to make this time now mentioned less agreeable or convenient to you than some other would be, you will let me know.
I have been a miserable invalid almost throughout our journeying, but Mr. Lewes has, I think, been strengthened, and has had much edification from lunatic asylums and laboratories.
Always yours affectionately
M. E. Lewes.
