My dear Miss Marks, --
I enter with the keenest interest into your needs -- so does Mr. Lewes -- and we are longing to see some avenue of light on the probabilities of your finding what will meet the rather difficult conjunction of requisites, especially as to salary and freedom from dogmatic prejudice. 313
I have written to one lady, who I know will help us if she can. But I think I must give up the attempt to interest any one else until I have the opportunity of personal intercourse with our friends. I only send this hurried note to let you know that you have our sympathy, and that we shall be rejoiced if that sympathy can turn into practical usefulness. I certainly should have held it an advantage for you if you could have managed to make the necessary money by separate lessons and classes. The difficulties of the resident situation seem to me great.
We leave this place on Thursday and are then going on a journey; 314 but I hope we shall be at the Priory again by the middle of October.
