My dear Nephew
I was much pleased to receive your kind letter and invitation. It would gratify me to shake your hand and to make the acquaintance of your wife. But we have just returned from a two months' journey on the Continent, and are about to be immediately occupied with the preparation of our youngest son for his departure to Natal, 515 so that we must deny ourselves any further absence from our home at present.
If you have a few minutes to spare, I should be very much obliged to you if you would write me a few lines to tell me where your Mother and your Aunt Houghton are now residing, and whether they are both well. I have mislaid the address your Mother sent me, when she last wrote, and am moreover uncertain whether she may not have changed her residence since then.
I beg you to present my kindest acknowledgments to your wife for her share in your willingness to receive Mr. Lewes and myself. I assure you that we both feel your attention.
