My dear Sara
I am a miserable wretch with aching limbs and sinking spirits, but still alive enough to feel the kindness of your last note. I thoroughly enjoyed your delight in Emerson. 722 I should have liked to see you sitting by him [with awful eye] for once in your life feeling all the bliss of veneration. I am quite uncertain about our movements. Dear Father gets on very slowly, if at all. Whether we shall be able to set out on Monday I do not know, still less how soon we may be on our return. You will understand all this, and the impossibility of my forming any plans for my own pleasure. A day will come when my head will be clearer and my heart lighter, and then I will write to you again. Rest is the only thing I can think of with pleasure now. Love to Mrs. Hennell. Even writing this makes my head swing.
