Dearly beloved spouse,
Thou art a good one for writing me a wee note so soon. I have seen your letter to Cara too, and now I am ever and anon with you in spirit, sitting by the little table in your own room, or lying on the couch enjoying these beautiful autumn days. That dear unmanageable male unit in our quaternian has been so ill that I have thought of nothing but Cara and him for the last three or four days. 632 He is getting better I hope -- I am going to spend the day with them for the sake of reading to him when he can bear it.
Take care of yourself my precious friend and keep up the fat you gained at Rosehill. 633 If you do not soon reappear, there will be nothing for you but the slightest possible residuum of Mr. Jenkins. 634 He is fast getting rid of the mortal coil that envelops his subtler essence, and if you do not make haste back, he will slip through the keyhole of your room and hover about you as your guardian angel. Love to Mrs. Hennell. Write me again.
Thy
Pollian.
