Dear Sara
We shall make a respectable figure after all -- nine articles and two or three of them good, the rest not bad. The Contemp[orar]y Literature, too, is rather better done this time. The Review has been selling well lately, in spite of its being the end of the quarter. We have made splendid provision for January -- Froude, 185 H. Martineau, 186 Theodore Parker, 187 Sam. Brown 188 etc. Certainly this part of Mr. C.'s affairs is hopeful enough.
The Autumnal freshness of the mornings makes me dream of mellowing woods and gossamer threads. I am really longing for my journey. 189
Mr. and Mrs. Mackay called on me the other day, looking better and happier than I have seen them. Bessie Parkes spent last evening with me -- chatting of experiences. These are the only events since Mr. Bray left.
