GE to Sara Sophia Hennell, [London, 28 May 1853]
MS: Yale. Endorsed: May 31. 1853. Hitherto unpublished.
Saturday Morning.
Dear Sara
Condole with me. I find Foxton's article detestable, and quite enough to damn the Review. I think we shall be obliged to offend him by declining it. 323 So much for bad news. For good, I have nothing better than that the [Society for the Conversion of the Jews] has converted one Jew during the last year and has spent £4400.
Mr. and Mrs. Combe are at Kingston, and I am going to dine with them there (at Dr. Cox's) 324 to-morrow. That is to say, if the lumbago, which seems to have succeeded the influenza, will let me.
I hope you are in better condition than I and are at this moment enjoying a trudge backwards and forwards "to earn an appetite."
Your affectionate
Pollian.
