My dear Sara,
I almost despair of seeing your face any more, but happily absence only gives new fragrance to the pleasures of memory. I have been pleased to hear that you liked returning in some degre to old occupations, but I do not know whether my selfishness will be proof against all regret if the Carters 535 attract you very much longer. There is a world to be said between us -- so much that one hardly knows how to write before such a preliminary, but when I heard that you were at
Hackney I could not bear to let Mr. and Mrs. Hennell return without bearing a little note to tell you how welcome all news of you is to me, and how much more welcome will be the sight of you. 536
I hear that you are in perfect health, and that is the most satisfactory of all results of the trip to Germany. My love and good wishes follow you in your flittings which some day or other will bring you here to make the world wag more merrily with
