April 23. 74.
Dear Sara
I am very glad to know that you and Cara have been comforted by finding Harriet in comparatively cheerful circumstances. It is of more importance that she should have her prospective delight in Cremation than that we should settle whether the hope is premature.
Give my love to Cara and tell her I shall long for some news of Paul Bradly -- which I am sure she will not fail to give me.
We have fixed on our country house for the summer and shall go to it at latest by the beginning of June. How glorious this opening Spring is! At this moment even London is so beautiful that I come home filled with the Park landscapes and see them as a background to all my thoughts.
Your account of Mr. George Dawson is rather melancholy. 73 I remember him only as a bright vigorous young man -- such as perhaps his sons are now. I imagine it is his fortune or rather misfortune to have talked too much and too early about the greatest things.
Miss Beedy's account of the way Mr. Spencer arrived at his present point of view 74 is not quite correct, I think. His opinions, I should say, do not take date from his acquaintance with Mr. Youmans, or with any facts about American women.
We have a second granddaughter -- a little Maud 75 to pair with Blanche, and in all respects we are faring as well as mortals can do -- who are no better than we are, I mean, organically and morally better.
It would surely be the more satisfactory alternative that the Sydenham tenant should stay on, and that Cara should have no trouble of mind or body about a second house.
Always your affectionate
Pollian.
