Dear Sara
I had a letter from Mrs. Call the other day in which she said incidentally that Dr. Chapman was staying with them, so I dare say we shall not see him for a week or so. I will willingly ask him that question, but as it is rather an awkward one, I must have some knowledge that will enable me to ask it adroitly. Can't you tell me what is the subject, and just hint the treatment?
I am all alarm and anxiety about the penny paper. The other, of course, is not given up? What worry and care Mr. Bray must be having -- and Cara can't help sharing it. She may well be thin. My love to her and tell her I don't value her a bit the more for not writing to me -- on the contrary.
That is a delicious picture of poor Harriet! 1191 I wish I could run in with you some day and hear her talk. I remember so well that description of the Clerus at the Asylum, which she gave us one day when we were all seated snugly in the drawingroom at Rosehill.
The "mysterious stranger" 1192 is certainly thrilling to look at. It seems ludicrous that we take the opera glass to look at him -- and see him much the better for it. I am not at all inclined to think contemptuously of him as a mere "flocculus."
We have had the pleasure of seeing our interesting friends Dr. and Mrs. Bodichon, who are soon to go away to Algiers again. She means to buy a house and garden there, and reside there the greater part of the year. I am delighted with her husband on a nearer acquaintance. He seems to me a gentle hearted, noble spirited man, and they are as happy together as -- we are. They have been the only people we have seen since we came from Germany. Dinner is come.
