My dear Mr. William
I know it will be a great surprize to you to learn that I am about to be married to Mr. J. W. Cross, a friend of years, especially loved and trusted by Mr. Lewes. He is of a Scotch family, and is second cousin to Mrs. W. Sellar, 400 of Edinburgh, whom you probably know.
The decision has been made but lately and I have been driven by pressing occupation to write you word only at the eleventh hour. We are going abroad for two or three months and shall return to Witley. But I shall not any more be resident at this house. We shall live, when in town, at No. 4, Cheyne Walk, Chelsea.
I hope you have been well and happy lately. Please let me hear from you in the old way when I return in August, for I shall always be
