Letter Content

GHL Diary, London, 1 January 1873
MS: Yale. Hitherto unpublished.
The year opened sadly with Polly's neuralgia no better than yesterday; but towards noon she rallied and when Paget called to see her was decidedly better. I read Delboeuf: Prol'e9gom'e8nes de la G'e9om'e9trie; 681 and went on with [Problems of Life and Mind.]
Trollope came to lunch. Told me of his trouble with Harry wanting to marry a woman of the town. Dined at Rudolf Lehmann's: the Fred Lehmanns, Benzons, Schlesingers, Roches, 682 Priestleys, 683 and Willses. Pleasant enough. Home at 11.
