Tuesday 15 May 1877
Caird. 672 Wagner Rehearsal. Talked with Mad. Wagner, Frau Materna, and Norman Grosvenor, who walked through the Garden with us. After lunch called on Chapman and George Smith. Revue Positive. Brehm, [Thierleben.] 673
Dined at the Goschens' 674 to meet the Princess Louise 675 and Marquis of Lorne (at her special request). She was very attentive to Polly who was taken down by John Bright. 676 Instead of asking that Polly should be presented to her, she asked to be introduced to Polly, and was taken up to her! Admiral Seymour, Capt. Barnaby (just arrived from Khiva) Huxley, Mr. and Mrs. H. Goschen, and Mrs. Hayter formed the rest of the party. I took down Mrs. Hayter. At 11 we left and drove to Mrs. Benzon's Music Party. Henschel sang divinely. Home at 1.

Letter from Eliza. Wrote to her. Walk in Park. The Blackwoods called. Brehm, Das Thierleben. Music.
Thursday 17 May 1877
Caird. Philosophy of Kant. Unable to work we went out for a walk. Dined at the Dannreuters 677 with the Wagners -- no one else present, until the evening when a small party assembled to hear Wagner read his [Parzival] which he did with great spirit and like a fine actor. Home at 11.30.
