Friday 20 April 1877
Cabanis. 643 Notes. Morning concert at F. Lehmann's: Paul Viardot, Hausmann and Henschel played a trio of Schumann. Fra'fclein L'f6we sang and Henschel sang superbly. Sat next to Mrs. Goschen and her daughter and had pleasant chat. Polly's cold got much worse as the day advanced and she went to bed instead of accompanying me to the dinner at Lord Charlemont's. 644 There were present the Marquis of Sligo, 645 Lord Houghton, Lady Barron, 646 Mad. DuQuairo, 647 Mr. and Mrs. Fellows and two other gentlemen. A quiet but very pleasant dinner. Good stories and I had a good innings.
Saturday 21 April 1877
Headache from the dinner! Polly's cold very bad. Unable to do anything. Charles called to ask if he might come here for a week while his house was being set in order.
Sunday 22 April 1877
Headache contd. Polly worse -- sick and headachy. She did not come down. Cabanis.

Tuesday 24 April 1877
Cabanis. Polly up to breakfast. Notes. Johnnie called to say Mrs. Stewart 653 would buy the Heights if we were disposed to sell. Balzac [Correspondence.] Lubbock Origin of Civilization. Charles came.
Wednesday 25 April 1877
Charles, who is staying with us for a week, breakfasted with me. Cabanis. Notes. Park. Went to the Conversatione at the Royal Society. Talked with Darwin, Tyndall, Harrison, Burden-Sanderson. Home by 11.
