Delboeuf. 427 Problems. Walked with Emily and Eleanor on St. George's Hill. Superb weather. After lunch we went there again with Eleanor and started at 3.40. Came home to find Dr. Andrew Clark had sent me a present of a Writing Pad of novel construction. Dressed and went to dinner party of 18 at Mrs. Benzon's: Joachim, Fra'fclein Krebs, 428 Browning, Leighton, the Lehmanns etc. After dinner Joachim and Krebs played -- she superbly -- and Fra'fclein L'f6we 429 sang Schumann. Agreeable evening. Home at 12.15.
Saturday 25 March 1876
Delboeuf. Problems. Wrote 6 letters and had a turn. Concert: Joachim and Mad. Schumann. Spohr's Quintett and Schumann's grand quintett, superbly played. Read the papers and at 'bc to 8 went to dinner party at the Pagets': present Lord and Lady Blachford, 430 Sir Garnett and Lady Wolseley, Miss Lawrence (surgeon's daughter), 431 the fianc'e9 of Miss Paget, two of the sons, Sir James and Lady P. Delightful party. We were both charmed with the Wolseleys, especially with him and were pleased that he asked if they might be allowed to call. 432 Home at 12.
Sunday 26 March 1876
Sick last night and headache to-day -- the usual consequences of dinner parties! Polly also headachy and unable to work. We had a couple of hours walk in the Park and came back somewhat better. Mrs. and Miss Huth, Charles, Prof. and Mrs. Beesley, Mrs. Orr, Mrs. F. Lehmann, Lord Houghton. Went to bed soon after dinner.
