We went to Oxford on a visit to Jowett. 814 The Bowens, the Roundells, and Lady Rich were the other guests. And at each meal there were other visitors: Thomson of Trinity, Mr. Pattison, the Max M'fcllers, Mocatta, Marquis of Tavistock, Henry Smith, the Vernon Harcourts, Warburton, Walker, Rolleston, and several others. We had long walks and talks, visited Colleges, and heard service in the chapel of New College, exquisite music. Jowett a delightful host. 815
Monday 9 June 1873
Left Oxford at 12 and went to Virginia Water where Johnnie and Emily Cross awaited us and drove us to Weybridge.
Tuesday 10 June 1873
Left Weybridge at 3.50 and home to find letters and proofs. Letter from Bertie.
