GHL Diary, Shrewsbury, 24 September 1875
MS: Yale. Hitherto unpublished.
Left at 10 for Shrewsbury and found I had left my Guide Book behind, so as soon as dinner was ordered at the Raven went to Telegraph for it. We rambled about the old town in the rain delighting in the picturesque old houses and the views from the heights and bridge. After dinner learned that Sir James Paget and family were in the hotel -- sent in my card and Sir James at once came to us and dragged us to their room which was full of young men and the family. Passed a very pleasant evening with them -- singing and chat.
