Monday 20th.
Today Charles and Gertrude were married. The day was remarkably brilliant, but piercingly cold from a bitter and fierce east wind. No one was invited to the wedding except Polly and I, the Aunts, 325 Gertrude's mother and sisters; yet there were many people in the Church. We went back to Church Row and had a quiet and pleasant talk with them all. The young couple started at 'bd past 1 for Folkestone on their way to Italy. Happier prospects never smiled upon a marriage. Polly and I then called on Mother. Drove home and were quiet and cozy together all day.
