MS: Yale. Hitherto unpublished.
As Polly was not well we went into town to pay our long contemplated visit to St. Paul's which I have not entered since I was 8 or 9 years old. The inside is much inferior in effect to the outside -- the wretched statues, and the partition probably destroy much of the effect. We then went to a wholesale warehouse in Watling Street and bought our carpet and rugs. After which we walked up Fleet Street and the Strand to the Bankers, and bought a watch, which is to be Polly's present to Charlie. Then we bought an elegant teacaddy and came home thoroughly tired.
