Dear Sir
Mrs. Lewes has been much interested in Mrs. Meredith's 520 letter but neither she nor I can in the least make clear to ourselves what is its special object, what Mrs. Meredith wishes Mrs. Lewes to do. Is it to interest herself with a publisher for the contemplated work? As her friend you are probably acquainted with her wishes. That is why I trouble you.
Just returned from 3 months absence I find a monticule of letters to answer!
