Thursday.
My dear Main
Go on and prosper! The two chapters read very well -- I haven't compared them with Boswell but only tried them as the ordinary reader will. Except a few deletes and a few changes of expression which I have marked in pencil there is nothing to suggest in the way of alteration. Yes -- there is one thing -- avoid as much as you can the habit of small quotation -- I mean familiar scraps like "seriously inclined." They give a journalistic made-up air to writing. Good quotations lighten up a page.
Ever yours in great haste
