Wednesday 13th October 75.
My dear Main
On our return home your letter smiled at us amid a pile of circulars and notes. The return was from Wales, and not M'fcrren -- so you see the papers have been as accurate as usual, and our interview with the Archbishop must have taken place in the presence of a "Special Correspondent." 321 I had hoped the mountain air would brace us both -- but we had little sun, and gales in lieu of "air," blustering day and night, and diversified with storms, so that our journey was a mull and made us long for the "comforts o' the saut market." Now we are fixed for the winter and ready to resume work, not indeed as strong as one could wish, but yet well enough to jog on.
Among the letters was the enclosed which I thought would interest you on account of your share in it. Send it me back. Madonna is always deeply gratified by such evidence that her work has not been in vain. I have too many letters to write to expatiate.
