Dearest Boy
Your letter with its news was very welcome. What you did was rightly done and I wish you would complete it by sending back Carter Blake's verses simply saying that I am abroad. Your resolution about Ben Rhydding 143 is one I am most pleased to hear. I did not like to urge it too strenuously on Gertrude but always felt it was eminently desirable.
The Mutter and I have come to the conclusion that the Music of the future is not for us -- Schubert, Beethoven, Mozart, Gluck or even Verdi -- but not Wagner -- is what we are made to respond to. 144 Lucca as Cherubino is enchanting and if she plays it while you are in London don't miss the chance. When next you write address care of Honble. Robt. Lytton, British Embassy, Vienna unless you should have occasion to write so as to reach this by the 5th -- the day on which we shall probably start -- (but it is not certain). We stop at Prague on the way and so break the journey besides resuming our acquaintance with the picturesque capital of Bohemia.
