Beach Hotel | Littlehampton | Monday.
Dearest Boy
Although my head is hot with work the mutter won't leave off her trash, so I scribble to you.
Imprimis, tell Grace and Amelia to get all their Exhibitions and other outings done this week, because if the weather turns cold we shall come home suddenly; and the advantage of the hotel is that we can leave at an hour's notice.
Secondly, in every case expect me to dinner on Friday. I shall be home either at 4 or 6 most probably 6 or a little after -- <say 'bc past 6 for dinner to allow for the train.>
We are in clover here. The hotel is luxurious and quiet. The sands are delightful and with no one on them. There is no variety; but all is so peaceful that the mutter drinks in enjoyment, and scribbles away in perpetual thanksgiving. I also scribble -- avec grace et profondeur; and every evening read aloud to her Beaumont and Fletcher though she doesn't read to me.
Your letter amused us much, especially the art conversation! We met a man at Worthing, who exhibited himself in gorgeous colors -- you shall have a correct representation when we meet. Mutter will never forget him! My proofs came direct. But I am savage with Miss Thackeray -- she has gone abroad without sending the finale to her story 101 and without letting me know how much it will make. Chip of the old block! God bless you
Ever your loving
Pater.
