Dearest Charles
The mats answer their purpose although not the color the Mutter would have preferred. It was at the Army and Navy we got our mats.
What a famous purchase you made at the sale. We paid 2£ each for our dining room Chippendales -- and a table for 1.15 is enough to excite one's envy. All our furniture is not yet arrived.
The Mutter I am sorry to say is poorly -- she was in bed on Friday and could not go with me on Saturday to Spencer's Picnic on St. George's Hill (for which she was not sorry as she is in need of quiet). I too am gouty and dyspeptic. But I went to the picnic -- the company being Prof. Marsh 97 from America, the Harrisons, Johnnie and Mary Cross, Mr. and Mrs. Busk, 98 Mr. and three Misses Potter 99 -- one of them Octavia's lieutenant, you know. It was pleasant enough, but fatiguing, and I was glad the Mutter was not there though sorry for the cause and for them.
I sent you the "Cornhill" yesterday. Weather here bright, but cool.
