The Priory, | 21. North Bank, | Regents Park.
My dear Masson
When Williams 315 asked me if I thought he might subscribe to the Carlyle medal 316 (I knowing him to be a devout admirer had told him, not suspecting there was any secrecy preserved) I said he had better apply to you. He will understand if you tell him it is to be restricted to the circle of those known to Carlyle.
Mrs. Lewes was very desirous to pay her tribute, but did not suggest it lest women should have been excluded. Herewith her signature.
Yours ever
G. H. Lewes.
I find she has written her signature so badly that I will ask you to send me another prospectus on which she may improve!
