My dear Masson
Madonna is distressed and [can't think] what you will think of her stupidity and carelessness when you hear that she has blurred and spoiled the second programe you sent for signature. Enclosed is a clean one on a piece of paper. If that won't do, but if it must be on the programe, forgive the trouble, and send a third! But I suppose this will do as well? 317
Williams is a Birmingham Manufacturer -- highly cultivated but in no sense distinguished. He wrote a paper on Euthanasia in the Birmingham Essays 318 -- and that is all I know of his literary work though I have known him for 20 years. I don't think he has any claim to be admitted unless the circle were a very large one.
Shall we present this memorial in person? 319
I have been suffering lately from nervous exhaustion which quite incapacitated me for work. But the week before last I was at Cambridge hard at work in the physiological laboratory, and instead of being made worse by it I seem to have recovered something of my old strength (more accurately feebleness). I told Blackwood it was another case of Antaeus. He recovered when he touched the earth -- I when I handled the frogs.
