Thursday.
My dear Robertson
Immediately after you left 355 Mrs. Lewes was taken ill with a return of her old painful malady and has not yet left her room, though she now seems decidedly mending and I hope will be out soon.
In consequence I have not been able to write the analysis you asked for, but send you instead a copy of the preface which you can introduce with a few words saying the book 356 will appear in a few days.
Last night I read your interesting paper in the XIX Century. 357 Can you give me the titles of the books and essays you seem to refer to as having preceded me in the discovery of the social factor in Psychology -- you will see from the preface that I claim it as mine -- but if I have been anticipated I must "bate my breath."
