My dear Holyoake
Mrs. Lewes would very much like to have your book. 299 We are here for the summer leading the lives of Hermits whose devotions are not to the next world. The uninterrupted peace is very favorable both to health and work. We see no one -- absolutely no one. Les jours se suivent et se ressemblent! I did one day run up to town because the Queen of Holland had expressed a wish that I should be presented to her, but except that august (and uninteresting) audience I have given no sign of myself (yes, I ought to add to a dentist) beyond what spiritual presence -- through no [medium] I hope! -- may have effected.
From your note I gather you have been suffering from your eyes -- let me hope that it is over now -- or at least in a fair way to be so!
