My dear Smith
The bearer of this letter, Mr. Tracey, 223 I have known and thought highly of for some years. I cannot of course say how far his talents will suit him for the post to which he aspires, but he has better referees than me to lend him their good word. I only wish to say that if in other respects you think him qualified, I believe you will find him a pleasant coadjutor.
