GHL to John Blackwood, Gorey, 7 July 1857
MS: National Library of Scotland. Hitherto unpublished.
Rosa Cottage, Gorey | Jersey 7 July 1857.
My dear Blackwood
Thanks for the papers and your letter which contains such pleasant news. But by an unusual oversight you have sent G.E. his Maga, leaving G.H.L. Magaless.
I am glad you like my Algerine friend on second reading. I should be glad if you gave her the encouragement of Maga's patronage 921 for although a painter of considerable power I believe she has stuff in her to make a remarkable contributor now and then; and two strings to a bow are never superfluous.
Eliot sent you a packet of M.S. last week; and I shall send you one in a day or two. I did intend returning home on the 16th, but as he will not leave Jersey till the 24th I have extended my stay also till then; so that both our proofs may be sent here.
Expect something "stunning" in No. III. 922
Ever faithfully yours
G. H. Lewes.
