My dear Blackwood
By this post I send you the first part of "Johnston," which I wish you to look over, because although I have advanced with the other parts it is possible you may have some criticisms to make which may alter my course. You will see that labor has not been spared.
I shall not be ready with Food and Drink 363 for this month. The extensive researches it has necessitated, beyond my former collections, will not allow me to come up to time, and as the papers are not serial, I am not disposed to sacrifice any point for the sake of gaining time.
I saw Langford on Wednesday and G.E. is not a little pleased with the news I brought away. 364 It appears L. knows the daughter of Amos Barton! 365
"Sea-side Studies" is I suppose ready now, as I saw the plates in Paternoster Row. I don't feel quite easy about so large an edition in these bad times; but my hopes rest on the growing taste for Aquaria.
