My dear Blackwood
Herewith is the paper on the Natural History Books anecdotical and discursive.
The Lecture went off capitally, and although I had never handled the chalk and diagram board in my life before I seemed to take to it "as to the manner born." Mrs. Lewes is greatly relieved. With her apprehensive tendencies the idea of my failure has of course been haunting her, as the idea of her own failure always haunts her. I suppose by this you have read the instalment of Silas Marner? We shall be anxious to hear what impression it makes on you and the Major -- of whose continued ill health we hear with great regret.
By the way, when do you think of coming up to town this spring?
Maga was very good last number and White's article 703 (I can't be wrong?) made me shout with laughter.
