My dear Blackwood
In spite of Mrs. Lewes's letter to you behold Mad dogs! I was fit for work the very day after she wrote, and although still far from satisfactory, I am quite another guess kind of cove! August being the mad dog month par excellence (according to vulgar notions) I was anxious to get the paper ready for August.
Mrs. Lewes I rejoice to say continues in capital condition. She had a pleasant visit from Hamley the other day.

There are two subjects I can propose -- Marshall Hall's Memoirs (not yet out) and two books on the History of Medicine -- qu'en dites vous?
