My dear Blackwood
By this post, as a registered letter, goes volumes 1 and 2 of the novel which Mrs. Lewes sends off with fear and trembling lest any accident should befal it; and also with the conviction that no adequate idea of the work can be formed until the whole is read, so entirely is the significance of the preparation involved in the conclusion. But in these 2 volumes you will see enough to enable you to decide.
Would you telegraph an acknowledgement of its arrival?
Ever yours truly
G. H. Lewes.
John Blackwood Esq.
