My dear Blackwood
I am pleased that you like Mrs. Beauchamp. 747 I could not form a fair opinion myself, because that which is effective on the stage often fails in print.
Du Chaillu I fear will not be out in time for me to take with me; but it can be kept till my return in July, if you like. I take with me a learned book on our lacustrine ancestors -- the people who built towns in the lakes -- and were very strange beings indeed. A learned Genevese 748 has made a vast collection of ornaments, utensils, and fragments of various kinds which enable him to restore something like an image of these antique races and their ways. The book will make I think a very interesting paper, and I hope to write it at Florence and will send it you from there.
There can be no need for anxiety as to Maga; at any rate as far as my poor pen goes you may count upon its best, and abundance in quantity. I thought the story would be welcome after so much science; in science I have three or four subjects in petto.
Mrs. Lewes is writing so I leave to her to say everything else.
