Paris, Tuesday.
My dear Blackwood
You will be glad to hear that our journey here was effected without fatigue, though the gaieties have been a little too much for our weakness and deposited a headache in both of us -- but that's of no consequence and we start tomorrow for Dijon and thence to the quiet of Aix and Chamb'e9ry.
Your letter was a great pleasure to her -- we read it in the post office and then went to the Champs Elys'e9es where I couldn't resist reading the proofs -- and made myself icy more than was necessary before entering the Salon. Such a Salon! 4000 frames of theatricality, lubricity, and commonplace, with some score of good pictures -- portraits and landscapes.
The weather which was winter when we arrived has become splendid and summery, which also makes Paris so brilliant. Tonight we close our gaieties with L''c9trang'e8re -- we were last night at the Fran'e7ais and the night before at the Od'e9on, 340 but now unless the open air theatres of Italy I don't fancy we shall have any more theatricals.
Madonna sends her very best regards to you and Willie.
