My dear Blackwood
I don't know how to set about making an index and it would give me infinite trouble, so if you can get a regular index maker to do it, it will both be better done and more expeditiously done. Tell him to be careful to register every fact, the mention of every animal, and every opinion.
Johnston will be a long business so that I had better go on at once, that I may be certain not to keep you waiting.
I was going to call on your brother today but this morning a letter came from him announcing his visit for tomorrow and I shall try and get G.E. to meet him. 1029 I will convey to that gent the pleasant news of your letter.
By this post I send you a short jeu d'esprit 1030 which may or may not suit Maga.
Ever faithfully yours
G. H. Lewes.
John Blackwood Esq.
