My dear Blackwood
By this post you will receive the third part of Eliot's story. It improves greatly, I think, as it goes on. The interest of the story becomes exciting; and the subtle truth in delineation of complex motives is better than anything he has yet done in that way.
I can't leave this till the 13th or 14th. Printers and publishers are as you know remorseless. The German publisher of the "Life of Goethe" has written for [additions and corrections] for a second edition of the I volume of the translation 819 -- a second edition called for before the second volume appears! -- and so I have to rake up that matter and read the books which have appeared during the last year.
Pleasant as second editions are, it is not pleasant to have to return to one's work, which one had fancied dismissed for ever. I don't envy you the having to read M.S.S first and then the proofs a little while afterwards.
I haven't looked at Maga yet. Thank you for sending it.
