Park Shot | Richmond | 3 April 1858.
My dear Blackwood
I am hurrying to London, but pause to acknowledge forthwith the receipt of the checque of 135 £ for Johnston and Food and Drink -- for which many sincere thanks. I did not expect the Johnston before it was due; but just now it comes in most agreeably, and I can't help feeling how friendly and thoughtful it was of you to send it.
I will give G.E. your message. You are the right sort of person to deal with him, for you perceive his Pegasus is tender in the mouth, and is apt to lay back his ears in a restive ominous style if even the reins be shaken when he is at work. Some people's Pegasus seems to have the mouth (as well as the pace,) of a cart horse; but your thoroughbred -- all bone and nerve -- requires other treatment. Ever my dear Blackwood
Yours faithfully
G. H. Lewes.
